Wedding dress shopping

Congratulations!! You are engaged!  And like many women, your first thought may have been: what will my wedding dress look like? Whether that thought leads to sheer panic, or excitement   your wedding dress is perhaps the most important fashion decision of your life. Between the fact that all eyes will be on you, and those wedding photos will be around forever, you must admit:
That’s a lot of pressure on one dress!

Over the past  20 years Wedding Belles Kibworth have helped many brides find their perfect wedding dresses, and we have come up with these useful tips to hopefully help you stay sane and have fun with wedding dress shopping.

1. Get your timing right. Many brides-to-be are so excited to try on wedding dress that they immediately book appointments at their local bridal shops. It’s great to be enthusiastic, but before setting foot in a bridal shop you really need to know the details of your wedding. Location and the formality of the event will all have an impact on the type of dress you will wear. If you shop for a dress before these details are set, you may not have enough information to make a good choice.

2. Leave Your Entourage at Home. When dress shopping, too many opinions are a bad thing. Too many voices can make it hard for you to understand how you feel about a particular dress. Carefully consider the people you bring shopping with you. Your natural instinct may be to invite your mum, sister, best friend and bridesmaid or you might ask your new mother-in-law to be, but if you are not sure that they can be objective, leave them at home. The majority of brides find if they have the right input from the right people the decision can be made at Wedding Belles Kibworth on their first visit.

3) Stay True to Yourself. Brides today want to look like themselves on their wedding day, albeit the very best versions of themselves. Deciding what that specifically means before you start shopping is worthwhile. For example, let’s say you have both a princess side to you (An Amanda Wyatt gown would fulfil this style), and a side that loves a more sophisticated style (Forget me Not Designs dresses would be perfect for this look). These are two very different looks and will translate into very different dresses. Knowing which look feels best for your wedding day is important, because you’ll be better able to make a choice once you’ve narrowed your scope (especially since there are many beautiful dresses out there, and most likely, many of them will look good on you).

Finally, we want to let you in on a little secret, we have learned from working with many brides over the years, mainly from Leicestershire and Northamptonshire that beauty radiates from the inside. If you feel happy and comfortable in your dress on your wedding day, it will be impossible to not look your best.

Look forward to meeting you at Wedding Belles Kibworth soon.

Bridal superstitions from bridal shop in Leicestershire

Superstitions

Wedding Belles Kibworth in Leicestershire have been talking to their brides about superstitions and their meanings.

There are many supposed superstitions to do with Weddings, many of which originate as far back as the Roman era. A lot of these superstitions, whether they be good or bad, are still practiced to this day by brides across the world.

Kelly a bride from Kettering in Northamptonshire shared this with us:

Something Old. Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in your shoe

The famous rhyme to do with what a bride should have on her wedding day.

Something New:

Symbolises the newlywed’s happy and prosperous future.

Something Old:

Represents the couple’s friends who will hopefully remain close during the marriage. Traditionally this was old garter which given to the bride by a happily married woman in the hope that her happiness in marriage would be passed on to the new bride.

Something Borrowed:

The “something borrowed” is often lent by the bride’s family and is an item much valued by the family. The bride must return the item to ensure good luck.

Something Blue:

The custom of the bride wearing “something blue” originated in ancient Israel where the bride wore a blue ribbon in her hair to represent fidelity.

If you know of any wedding related superstitions please reply to our blog we would love to share them with the brides that come to visit us at Wedding Belles Kibworth Leicestershire.
